Kulukki sarbath or shaken lemonade is a Kerala traditional soft drink made with lemon and few other ingredients. Its a perfect summer refreshing drink also. It has a special taste of sweetness along with spicy and tangy!! Its made in a cocktail mixing style and hence the name kulukki sarbath/ shaken lemonade.

Ingredients
- 2 cups chilled water
- 2 tsp basil seeds (Sabja seeds)
- 1 lemon
- 1 green chilli slitted
- few ice cubes
For the sugar syrup:
- 4 tsp of sugar
- 1 cup of water
Instructions
- Cut the lemon into two half and then squeeze the lemon into a bowl. Now remove the seeds from the juice and keep the bowl aside.
- Take an empty bowl, Now add water into the bowl till reaches of the bowl and then add two tablespoons of sabja seeds and then fill a bowl with water. Keep the bowl aside for 10 mins.
- After 10 mins we can see that sabja seeds are increasing the size. When the sabja seeds are increased there size we can observe that the outer layer of the sabja seeds is forming a jelly layer.
- Then we need to prepare the sugar syrup. So that takes a glass and add four tablespoons of sugar and then add one cup of chilled water into sugar. Make a mix until the sugar syrup is ready.
- Once the sugar syrup is ready then add the squeezed lemon juice into the sugar syrup. Add the Sabja seeds into a glass and add slitted green chilli.
- Finally, add ice cubes and water into a glass.
- Now close the glass with the help of a lid or another glass and shake for 5 sec. Then pour into serving glass.
Notes
- Use a container which has a lid which doesn't leak because we need to shake it rigorously. You can also use a bottle to shake.
- According to your taste adjust the sweetness.
Steps To Make Kulukki Sarbath:
Just go through the sabja seeds that there will be chances to have stones or dust particles. If any remove that. Take a bowl and add a half a cup of water then add two tablespoons of sabja seeds into a bowl. Fill the bowl with water and keep aside for 10 mins.
After 10 mins we can see that sabja seeds are increasing the size. When the sabja seeds are increased there size we can observe that the outer layer of the sabja seeds is forming a jelly layer.
Add ice some cubes into the glass.
Then we need to prepare the sugar syrup. So that takes a glass and add four tablespoons of sugar and then add one cup of chilled water into sugar. Make a mix until the sugar syrup is ready.
Once the sugar syrup is ready then add the squeezed lemon juice into the sugar syrup.
Take a green chilli and slit in middle and add into the glass.
Now close the glass with the help of a lid or another glass and shake for 5 sec. Then pour into serving glass.
